Asian American Month of Observance
AsACC celebrates history, culture, and traditions of the Asian American community. The AsACC, throughout this month, will be sponsoring programs for the student body to acknowledging Asian American themes and issues. There will be a wide variety of guest speakers, lectures, conferences, films, artistic performances and workshops. Join the Asian American Cultural Center in celebrating their heritage.

Wednesday October 3rd
22nd Annual Student Health Fair- 10:30 am- 2:30 pm - Dow Field
The University’s Student Health Services invites you to participate in their 22nd Annual Student Health Fair. Educational and interactive exhibits, the most popular aspect of past health fairs, will be a major focus. Come and join us for demonstrations, bright displays, participatory exhibits, and giveaways!

Sex Fued- 6:30 pm- AACC Community Room
Come participate in the fun sex quiz show. Test your knowledge about safe sex and proper sexual lifestyles. Get a prize for every right answer. Joleen Nevers, Health Education Coordinator, makes this topic interesting and exciting.

 Thursday, October 4th
Marilyn Nelson book discussion- 5:30pm -AACC Community Room
Come join us for a book discussion with Marilyn Nelson author of “Ms. Crandall”. She is the author of 6 books of poetry, 2 children's collections and a few chapter books. Her book Carver: A life in Poems has been awarded the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for excellence in children's literature. Nelson has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and recently named Connecticut's Poet Laureate by the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. Also featured at this event will be poet Elizabeth Alexander. Alexander's collections of poetry include Antebellum Dream Book, Body of Life, and The Venus Hottentot. Her poems, short stories, and critical writing have been widely published in such journals and periodicals as The Paris Review, American Poetry Review, The Kenyon Review, and The Southern Review. This event is open to everyone!

Kathy Griffin Comedy Show- 7:00pm&9:30pm – Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts
Celeb-bating Kathy Griffin is a multifaceted, naughty comedienne with a sarcastic and rapid-fire wit. Best known for playing Brooke Shield’s hilarious co-worker on “Suddenly Susan,” Kathy has become notorious for taking merciless potshots at fellow celebrities. She has more stories, more dish and more of what she shouldn’t say but you just know you want to hear!

African American Faculty and Staff Luncheon- 12:00 pm - AACC community room
The center welcomes all the African American faculty and staff of the university to come join us for a lunch and a discussion about different issues on campus.

Saturday, October 13th
The 3rd Annual Professional Leadership Conference – 9:00 am – Student Union 304
Join us as we invite all black student organizations and professional all over Connecticut engage our experiences as black professionals.

Sunday, October 14- 20th

Homecoming
Participate in the UConn tradition of Homecoming!  If you want to participate in homecoming 2007 sign up is in the AACC! Homecoming includes different events such as the Alma Mater competition, Royal Court competition, Lipsync, banner and a parade. It’s a lot of fun and great memories are created every year. BSA will also be hosting an after party in the Student Union.

Meet and Greet the Director of Financial Aid Jean Main- 12:00 pm- AACC Lounge
Discuss your concerns about your financial situation. Learn more about where your money goes, comes from, how to get more financial aid and the ins and outs of the financial aid with Director Jean Main.

CAP prepares students for successful entry into, retention in, and graduation from a post-secondary institution through its four constituent programs: Educational Talent Search, Gear Up and Upward Bound provide programming to increase middle and high school students' college access and retention; Student Support Services provides programming to facilitate students' retention in and graduation from the University of Connecticut.
