New to campus? Come and get your official welcome to the African American Cultural Center and the Soul Food Open House. During the dinner, we will be having Al Duncan as our guest speaker. Al Duncan is a high energy, high content, high impact speaker, lecturer, and motivational powerhouse. Al has delivered over 500 keynotes and 300 seminars to more than a quarter of a million people. Al Duncan is a self-development expert and columnist for The Black Collegian Magazine. He is the co-author of Unleash the Greatness Within You and he is the former executive producer and host of The State of the Mind Address, a self-improvement television program. Come join us for a great evening to start of the semester with great motivation.

Come for the launch of “I’ll Fly Away: Further Testimonies from the Women of York Prison,” compiled and introduced by Wally Lamb. Twenty women from Lamb’s writing workshop at York Correctional Institute share their experiences in powerful essays. Lamb is also the author of the best-selling novels, “I know this Mush is True” and “She’s Come Undone,” and he compiled a previous collection of essays from his workshop at York, “Couldn’t Keep it to Myself.” Please call the UConn Co-op and let us know you are coming to ensure enough seating: 860-486-5027.

Faye Wattleton is the president of the Center for the Advancement of Women, an independent, nonpartisan non-profit research and education institution dedicated to advocating for the advancement of women. From 1978 to 1992, she was the first African American and youngest president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. As the youngest person and first woman named to the presidency of the nation's oldest and largest voluntary reproductive health organization, Ms. Wattleton's vision, leadership and courage projected Planned Parenthood into the forefront of the battle to preserve women's fundamental right to self-determination. Come join us for a riveting lecture by Faye Wattleton.
