Shirley Chisholm wasn’t just the first — she was fearless.
From Congress to the presidential campaign trail, she spoke truth, challenged norms, and demanded space for voices long ignored.
Her message still echoes today:
“If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
Take a moment today to honor those who cleared the path — and remind yourself to keep walking it.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and Black excellence. On this day, we honor the end of slavery in the United States and recognize the ongoing fight for justice and equity. Black and Brown LGBTQIA+ persons find themselves always standing in front of the struggle for justice, the intersection of race, gender, and sexuality. Hence, in this era of burgeoning anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and socio-economic inequalities, their leadership remains preeminent. They have contested exclusionary measures, shaped movements, and have created spaces that now offer recognition to the most marginalized. The cultural influence of Black and Brown LGBTQIA+ persons is immeasurable, defining music, fashion, language, and art; which are at the core of mainstream life. Even when erased from history, they have always known themselves, and their presence is sewn into the fabric of society. Through resilience and creativity, they continue to shatter the glass ceiling, insist on equity, and envision a just future for all.
Happy Pride Month to everyone.
